Invitation (LOI): Most tourists need to obtain an official invitation approved by Turkmen authorities – this is the key first step. Such invitations are typically arranged through a licensed tour operator in Turkmenistan.
Visa Application Submission: Once you have an approved invitation, you can submit a visa application at the nearest Turkmenistan embassy or consulate. In the absence of diplomatic missions, it’s possible to obtain a visa upon arrival at Ashgabat airport or at authorized border crossings Farab, Shavat and Howdan/Bajgiran.
Required Documents: You’ll need a valid passport (with at least 6 months validity from the planned departure date), passport-sized photographs, a completed application form, and consular fees of $110-120 USD.
Processing Time: The visa application review process takes up to 10 business days, so it’s recommended to submit documents well in advance. Expedited processing is available for an additional fee.
