Turkmenistan in a Flash: Darvaza, Ashgabat, Merv & Yangikala

From the fiery Darvaza Crater to the gleaming city of Ashgabat, the ancient ruins of Merv, and the breathtaking Yangikala Canyons, this journey covers it all. Starting and ending at Ashgabat Airport, enjoy plenty of time to explore the capital city.
Day 1, Ashgabat – Merv
- Meet at the airport.
- Go to Mary by car (350km, 4 hours). Departure time depends on the time we leave the airport.
- Visit the ancient Merv (2 hours). You will see the ancient ruins of Merv, once one of the greates cities in the Islamic world.
- Capital of Empires.
- Overnight in Mary.
Day 2, Merv – Ashgabat – Darvaza
- 09:00 Go to Darvaza via Ashgabad (650km, 9 hours)
- 18:00 Reach Darvaza. Spend some time at Darvaza Gas Crater, then have dinner made locally. In the the night after the dinner visit the Darvaza again and spend as much time as you want.
- Overnight in Darvaza, in traditional Yurts or Camping tents.
Day 3, Darvaza – Ashgabat
- 07:00 From Darvaza go to Ashgabad.
- 12:00 Reach Ashgabad and have lunch.
- Sightseeing of Ashgabad. You will see everything there is to see in Ashgabat and vicinity.
- Overnight in Ashgabad.
Day 4, Ashgabat – Yangikala – Ashgabat
- 06:00 From Ashgabad go to Yangikala (600km)
- 13:00 Reach Yangikala and spend couple of hours at this amazing place.
- 16:00 From Yangikala go Ashgabad
- 23:00 Reach Ashgabad.
- Overnight in Ashgabad.
(Day 5), Ashgabat – Intl. Airport
- If the flight is early in the morning then fly home in the morning.
- If the flight is later you can have some free time in Ashgabad.
