Introduction
On this 5-day tour where you enter Turkmenistan from Khiva in Uzbekistan You will visit three of Turkmenistan’s major tourist attractions:
- Darvaza Gas Crater, the Gates of Hell,
- The unusual city of Ashgabat,
- The out-of-this-world landscape of Yangikala.
On the last day, we will fly directly from Ashgabat to Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan’s second largest city, and avoid another 600 km journey towards Uzbekistan.
Itinerary
Day 1, Khiva – Darvaza
- Meet you at the border (Shavat).
- Head directly to Darvaza Crater after the lunch.
- 20:00, Reach Darvaza crater and have first walk there.
- 21:00, Have the dinner. It is usually a kebab prepared at the spot.
- 22:00, Spend more time and go to bed.
- Overnight at Darvaza in Yurts.
Day 2, Darvaza – Ashgabat
- 07:00, After the breakfast depart towards Ashgabad. On the way we will stop by two more craters: Water Crater and Mud Crater. and a local village Yerbent or Bokurdak to take photos of the local life.
- 12:00, Reach Ashgabat and have a lunch at a restaurant.
- 13:30, Start the City Tour of Ashgabat.
- 18:00, Check into a hotel and have dinner after that.
- Overnight in Ashgabat.
Day 3 Ashgabat – Turkmenbashi
- 07:00, Drive towards Turkmenbashi city on the Caspian Sea. On the way we will visit Akhalteke horse farm, Kow Ata and Nokhur mountain village.
- Have a lunch in the Nokhur village.
- 19:00, Reach Turkmenbashi.
- After some sightseeing of Awaza, (largest tourist resort on the Entire Caspian Sea), check into a hotel.
- Dinner in a restaurant with seafood from the Caspian Sea.
- Overnight in Turkmenbashi.
Day 4, Turkmenbashi – Ashgabat
- 07:00, Check out from the hotel and head towards Yangikala.
- 10:00, Reach Yangikala and have sightseeing for about 3 hours.
- 13:00, Head to Ashgabat. On the way we will have lunch and dinner at restaurants.
- 22:00, Reach Ashgabat.
- Overnight in Ashgabat. in the same hotel.
Day 5, Ashgabat – Turkmenabat (Flight) – Bukhara
- Early in the morning check out from the hotel and fly to Turkmenabat city (second largest city of Turkmenistan). The time of the flight can change depending on the day.
- From Turkmenabat go to visit Dayahatyn Karawanseray, (the largest remaining caravanserai in Central Asia, the next nominee for the UNESCO Heritage) (200km 3hrs, + 3 hrs driving to return to Turkmenabat).
- Lunch on the way back to Turkmenabat.
- 16:00, Return to Turkmenabat and head to the border with Uzbekistan. This border crossing point is open 24/7.
